The Good Cook is a small company offering cooking classes in a party setting to children, adults of all ages, specialty classes for men and small plate catering.
Class Menu
All classes are $50 per person per class. The fee covers all ingredients and instructor.
Soups & Bread
An introduction to stocks, basic bread recipes and techniques. A must for soup and bread lovers. You will make master soup stocks and learn how to turn these basic stocks into crowd pleasing soups. Roasted vegetable stock, chicken stock, foccachia, white and wheat breads. Class length 4 hours.
Pasta & Bread
An introduction to basic pasta dough making. You’ll never buy that stuff in a box again! Easy Pumpkin Ravioli, Cheese Ravioli, Linguini, and Basic Italian bread. Class length 4 hours.
Main Course Salads
Light, Healthy, Delicious and never boring. The Best Caesar Salad Ever, Arugula with Poached Pears on Pecan Crisps, and Scallops with Hazelnut Vinaigrette. Class length 4 hours.
Tapas/Appetizers
Small plates are popular for every occasion. This class will explore four sure to please “small plates” or tapas as they are called in Spain. These small plates deliver big flavors. Crab Wontons, Mango Shrimp Salsa, Mushroom Tartlet and a "cook's choice". * Class length 4 hours.
Sushi & Tempura
Master the art of preparing and rolling your own California Rolls. The class will also learn how to choose and prepare the proper seafood ingredients for sesame tuna blocks and two types of tempura batters: a "dry" tempura and a "wet" tempura for both shrimp and vegetables. Various Japanese dipping sauces will also be explored. Class length 4 hours.
Desserts
Simple to sophisticated, who doesn’t enjoy a sweet bite? Molten Chocolate Cakes, Berry Souffles, Fresh Whipped Cream and Brownies from Scratch. Class length 4 hours.
Dinner Revisited
You have roasted the chicken, now what? Learn how to turn leftovers into great dinners, not 2nd time around meals. Chicken Pot Pie, Enchiladas, Uptown Chicken Salad and Roasted Chicken Stock.* Class length 4 hours.
The Basics of Roasting
Is there anything more comforting than the aroma of dinner roasting in a warm oven? Learn the basics of roasting a variety of meats and vegetables in this appetizing class. Simple Roast Rosemary Chicken, roasted sticky carrots and crisp new potatoes are on the menu. In addition, the class will explore a variety of rubs and marinade techniques used to enhance any cut of beef or pork. This class will have you roasting and basking in the warmth of good eats in no time! Class length 4 hours.
Children in the Kitchen (ages 8 to 12)
Yes, kids can cook too! Studies show that children who help prepare and cook food are more likely to eat a variety of foods. Individual pizzas, veggie sampler with dip and cupcakes for dessert! Basic kitchen safety is covered. Parental permission required. (customizable for allergy concerns). Class length 2 - 2.5 hours.
Teens in the Kitchen (ages 13-16)
Get your teens cooking and talking. It’s amazing what conversations come up in the kitchen. This class is great fun for a teen party. Your teen will plan and prepare a family dinner. Menu varies; Check the specials page or email for current menu or if you wish, we can customize a menu for the party! Basic kitchen safety is covered. (customizable for allergy concerns). Class length 3 hours.
Men in the Kitchen
Hungry kids? Significant other out of town? Or does the Chief Cook in your house need a break? We will prepare a variety of quick, healthy, easy menus for any occasion - meals that will have them asking for more. Ladies - don't pass up the opportunity to give this class as a great gift for the men in your life. Chicken enchiladas with yellow rice and beans, personal pizzas or calzones with green salad and the best grilled sandwich in town. Don't forget dessert, of course it's on the menu! Class length 4 hours.
Easy Gourmet
Want to surprise that special someone with a truly memorable meal? You be the chef with this elegant, easy dinner. Fit for an intimate dinner for two or a dinner party - your guests will applaud from appetizer thru dessert. Sample menu: Mixed baby green salad with goat cheese crouton, braised veal chop with lemon and capers over soft polenta, molten chocolate cake.
